About Independent Living Centre
meaning of independent living
Independent Living Centre [CIL] - Pokhara is a completely non-profitable, non-political non-government self help organisation run entirely by persons with disabilities for people with disabilities. It was established to work for the promotion and protection of the rights of people with disabilities through the concept of independent living.
CIL believes that people with disabilities should have the opportunity to be actively involved in daily living activities, decision making processes, policies and programs across all sectors of Nepali society and government.
CIL was established and registered in the Kaski District Administration Office in 2009 under the Institution Registration Act (1977) and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council in 2014.

To empower persons with disabilities and allow them to live independently with dignity with a full realization of human rights in a barrier free environment in their chosen community.
Mission
Promoting and strengthening values, principles and practices of independent living in Nepal.
Goals
Our main goals are:
- Promoting and strengthening independent living centres as the key mediators of government to implement independent living activities.
- Creating a positive and responsible government and society which will promote and develop independent living programs.
- Advocating for the adoption of anti-discriminatory laws and policies regarding the rights of persons with disabilities and their effective implementation
